A Journey Inspired by a True Story

In the 1980s, a man escaped from an Australian prison and entered India with a false passport. He arrived in Bombay (now Mumbai), where he first met my uncle, Prabhakar. At that time, I was just a child, but this moment would leave a lasting impact on our family. This man, later known as Shantaram, lived with my uncle for a couple of months in the city. He shared meals with us, learned our language, and became part of the community. Later, he moved to our village, where he stayed for several months — living a simple life, helping others, and being embraced as one of our own. That story became part of our family’s legacy — a story of escape, survival, and finding peace in a new land.
